In each year at the end of July or the beginning of August, Zacatecas, becomes a city of celebration, that brings together a lot of folklore groups from all over the world.

Folkloric groups from various countries and numerous states in Mexico offer representations of their culture and traditions in dance, crafts and cuisine.

I had the pleasure to participate at this festival, in my opinion, one of the biggest festivals in the world. I was pleasantly surprised by his beauty.

From the information I have received, every year, the festival from Zacatecas hosts 15-20 dance groups from foreign countries usually including Europe, Asia, Canada, and South America, but also 10-15 groups from various Mexican States.

Festival Zacatecas del Folclor Internacional has been held since 1996 to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the city of Zacatecas in 1546, whose Historic Center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993.

During this festival the whole city is full of scenes. All the markets, large and small, are specifically designed for the performances of the groups. Besides Zacatecas, two more cities will prepare for celebration. Through rotating all the groups, will perform in two other large cities near Zacatecas: Fresnillo and Guadalupe. Performances are also spread through many other smaller villages across this very large state.

If you visit zacatecas in this during this period you will be pleasantly surprised. You will be able to admire a variety of traditional costumes and a multitude of colors. Here you will find all the traditional dances from around the world, executed with a lot of passion, love and professionalism.

It will be 10 days full of tradition and celebration. The festival will begin with a beautiful parade of the groups. It will start from a corner of the city and will passes through the entire historical center of Zacatecas stopping near the great cathedral, where each group will present their country with a dance. After each their country introduced herself and the festival will be officially opened by the Governor, the evening will conclude with a nice fireworks and the representatives of the countries will be in the middle of the city population, waving their flags.

Every day the groups will be divided into various parts of the city. The scenes are beautifully arranged in big and open places.

For me it was an unforgettable experience. I participated with folkloric group from which I belonged. All I can say is that it was the best festival I attended. As a dancer I can say that I felt like a goddess. Everyone was very hospitable, people were very sociable, very good oragnizarea was on stage I felt that in the seventh heaven. At every show we danced for thousands of people. I have not seen so many people gathered together never..

The folkloric groups that participated at this festival have shown a lot of love for everything related to folklore and tradition. It was amazing to see so many customs and traditions, so many so many dances and costumes that actually leaves you ....speechless/no comment.

The people of Zacatecas were amazingly hospitable. This are the people who love the folklore and the traditions, people who believe that traditional dances are the most precious thing and they are right. The traditions of each country are extraordinary. You can see it and you can feel it, only if you take part to a festival like this.

If you are on holiday in this time of year and you want to visit Zacatecas, I warmly recommend you do not miss this festival. Besides the attractions of this city, the festival Zacatecas del Folclor Internacional has a place of honor, both locally as well as globally

My advice: Do not miss this festival and do not forget the camera !!! So much beauty you will not see in other part of the world
