The Jordaan is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful districts of the Dutch capital. It is preferred by artists, photographers and all those who want to get lost on its beautiful streets.

After wandering so much in the center, being constantly surrounded by tourists and hearing more English than Dutch, getting to the Jordaan district was refreshing. Don't get me wrong there are tourists here as well (as everywhere in Amsterdam), but the streets are not as crowded and while walking you don`t have to worry that you`ll get run over by a bike.

Nowadays the Jordaan is considered one of the most expensive parts of the Dutch capital, which is surprizing if you think of the fact that in the past it used to be one of the most impoverished neighborhoods. The most fancy restaurants, cafés, art galleries and shops are in the Jordaan.

However, it is not necessary to buy something from here (you'll have plenty souvenir shops in the city center) or visit the many art galleries, you can just wander around and fall in love with its canals, bicycles and the old typical Dutch houses.

Although I always say that getting lost in Amsterdam is the best way to truly discover it, it's not a problem if you want to visit it according to a plan. Finding the Jordan district is quite easy, especially if you know where is the house of Anne Frank (the one with the huge crowd). The Anne Frank house can be your point of reference as it is situated right at the border of the Jordaan. Walk a little bit more from this house and you're in the Jordaan district.
