The Hague

Another extraordinary city of the Netherlands is Den Haag. It`s the government city as well as the city with the most monuments and historic districts to visit, a must if you are in the South of Holland.
Here are 10 reasons why it is highly recommended to visit this city:
1. It is the largest Dutch city after Amsterdam and Rotterdam and the country`a most populous.
2. It is the seat of the Dutch Parliament, therefore you will find here many international organizations and several royal palaces to visit, including the United Nations.
3. Den Haag is bordered by canals, having large luxurious streets, which are ideal for walks on foot or by bike.
4. It is a student friendly town so if you are a stundent you might consider going studying in Den Haag
5. It is located on the North Sea, having two beach resorts. One of them, Scheveningen, is a very popular summer destination among tourists. The other beach resort is Kijkduin, visited mainly by locals.
6. You can enjoy good coffee and a relaxing atmosphere at one the sidewalk cafés of the main square, the Plein.
7. You can visit Madurodam, which is close to Scheveningen beach.
8. At the Mauritshuis there is an exhibition of well-known Dutch artists as Vermeer, Rembrandt etc. It`s not the Rijksmuseum, but still worth a visit!
9. Several scenes of the famous Dutch film Zwartboek were shot in Den Haag. If you have seen the film you will surely recognize some spots!
10. In Scheveningen you can taste the typical Dutch herring eaten with onions. If you are there on Vlaggetjesdag you can see how the Dutch celebrate the year`s first herring arrival.
