The Peles Castle
Build as a summer residence for the Romanian royal family, the Peles Castle is today a cultural and political symbol.
King Charles I was the one who initiated the construction of the beautiful castle which functioned as a royal residence from 1883 until 1947.
In 1948 the castle was nationalized and between 1953 and 1975 and from 1990 until today it functions as a museum under the ownership of King Michael I of Romania.

As you can see the building is called a castle but actually, due to it's form and function it is a palace.
From the architectural point of view it has many influences from Gothic to Neo-renaissance and Saxon or baroque.
The rooms of the palace take the themes from many of the worlds cultures: French, Turkish, Asian, etc., The decorations are from the finest collections in the world and are pieced together; furniture, statues, paintings, Chinas; so that they create beautiful rooms, with certain themes as presented above.

Today the Peles Castle is partially opened as a museum so that the visitors can amaze themselves with the outside and inside beauty of what a royal summer residence used to look like in the beginning of the 20th century. During the decades of it`s existence, the palace has enjoyed the visit of some of the worlds most important politic and cultural personalities: Richard Nixon, Muammar al-Gaddafi, Yasser Arafat, George Enescu or Jacques Thibaud are just some of the names that walked to rooms of this beautiful building.
